The public gallery broke into a traditional Maori love song after the announcement that the same-sex marriage bill had passed for New Zealand.

Excuse me while I go cry

‘I could die of love for you.’

*Wipes away a tear*

The right-hand side of the Ditch is on the right side of history. Australia, hang your head in shame, this is how it’s done in a civilised, sophisticated, respectful modern society.

There are two of us in the office at the moment and 100% of us are crying about this.

…Freedom

Woke up this morning
Mind fixed on…filing. But saw
The Pink tree in bloom.

The Pink tree is probably my favourite tree in the garden. I haven’t managed to find out its proper name yet. For most of the year, from first dark pink spring buds to tiny rust red autumn leaves, it changes subtly and beautifully every day. But yesterday was the day when it turned properly pink. Long-delayed filing was postponed again while I went out to photograph it and the garden.
